Announcing the World’s First Global Refugee Labour Mobility Summit

Talent Beyond Boundaries and Fragomen are proud to be co-hosting the Global Refugee Labour Mobility Summit with support from UNHCR and the Global Task Force on Refugee Labour Mobility from 6-10 March 2023.

The Summit will be the first convening of the global community working to dramatically expand employment pathways for displaced talent.

The Summit will take place at a time where labour mobility has acquired global momentum, bringing together more than one hundred leaders and representatives from the growing ecosystem of actors working to build employment-based pathways for refugees, including from the private sector, government, NGOs and international organisations. The Summit will include multidisciplinary dialogues on the week’s theme: Growing Employment Pathways for Displaced Talent: Obstacles, Solutions, Commitments.

"More than a thousand people have already secured solutions to their displacement as a result of labour mobility programs. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Together we can help millions of refugees benefit from labour mobility. We are delighted to partner with Fragomen to host the Global Refugee Labour Mobility Summit, and we look forward to welcoming leaders and practitioners from around the world to Amman, Jordan,’’ said Stephanie Cousins, CEO of Talent Beyond Boundaries

An entire week of events has been planned which aims to highlight the important accomplishments to date and provide fertile ground for new cooperation opportunities for labour migration for displaced individuals around the world.

“Fragomen and Talent Beyond Boundaries are proud to host The Global Refugee Labour Mobility Summit  in Jordan. It is part of our joint effort to help refugees find a new role in a new country on the basis of their skills and employability. It is our shared hope and belief that these ‘complementary pathways’ for refugees will become a normal recruitment effort by employers looking for talent,’’ said David Crawford, Managing Partner of Fragomen Canada

Displaced people are at the centre of TBB’s work, and we wanted to prioritise their attendance and their contribution, so we can continue learning from their experiences directly. This is why Amman, Jordan–where we have been working directly with displaced people for many years– was chosen as the host city for the first edition of this Summit.

The Summit aims to showcase the multiple levels of work being done by different stakeholders and  will bring a unique opportunity to identify challenges, develop solutions and make joint commitments to keep upscaling employment-based pathways. The Summit agenda includes:

The ‘Global Refugee Labour Mobility Conference’ on 7th March, will be the core event of the Summit, with an agenda including keynote speeches, and cross-sectional roundtable discussions.

  • A day of practitioner workshops on 8th March that aim to unlock barriers to scaling labour mobility through forming new collaborations and initiatives.

  • A two-day Job Fair on 9th and 10th March where employers attending the event will have the opportunity to meet and interview refugee candidates in person.

The Summit is proudly supported by the core members of the Global Task Force on Refugee Labour Mobility: Government of Canada (Chair), Australian Government, Fragomen, International Chamber of Commerce, International Organization for Migration, RefugePoint, Talent Beyond Boundaries and the UNHCR.
